The section of the Wycombe Railway from Princes Risborough was incorperated into the
later GWR/Great Central's joint London Extension to Ashendon Junction.
The LNER maintained the joint line north from West Wycombe, hence the upper quadrant signals.
South of Princes Risborough the original (down) line descends steeply around the hill
while the newer up line climbs at an easier gradient through cuttings and a short tunnel.
Mid way between Saunderton and West Wycombe, old bridge abutments remain beside the brick arch bridge
over the main road. The original viaduct over the Hughenden valley survived unused.
